JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 5, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Safe Harbor Maritime Academy announces the opening of its first summer program – SUMMER YACHT SCHOOL (http://summeryachtschool.com) where twelve teenage boys will be able to experience an aquatic adventure aboard one of the world's finest motor yachts, and it just might be the start of a maritime career.  The program will offer a summer-long, first-class yacht school program with exciting, fun and educational maritime experiences.

Boys who enroll in the program will spend their summer living aboard the truly amazing, 114-foot yacht named Amazing Grace, where they will learn to pilot the vessel from the Captain's chair, acquire the skills of a deck crew member, become familiar with the engine room, learn to prepare culinary delights in the ship's galley, and collect other skills relevant to life and work on a "super yacht." In addition, weekly adventures will include sailing lessons, scuba diving lessons, fishing aboard our 50-foot Hatteras motor yacht, anchoring off Cumberland Island where horses still roam free, and so much more.

The Amazing Grace boasts luxurious living quarters and state-of-the-art equipment. It was honored as "Best Motor Yacht of the Year" in 2000, by the International Super Yacht Society. Amazing Grace is part of the fleet of donated boats and yachts owned and operated by Safe Harbor Maritime Academy, which also operates year-round as a home for troubled adolescent boys. Surrounded by the lessons of seamanship and character mentoring, boys at Safe Harbor overcome behavioral problems and mature into young men of character and vision. Since 1984, the Academy has provided a safe alternative home environment for struggling teens.

"We're excited to offer what we believe to be the first of its kind summer program for adolescents to live, learn, work, and play aboard a megayacht.  This can be a-one-of-a-kind summer experience or it might be the beginning of a career" says Dr. Douglas Smith, Founder of Safe Harbor Maritime Academy.

The program will be run by Doug and Robbie Smith and a seasoned yacht crew.  Doug and Robbie were profiled in the Hallmark Channel movie of the same name "Safe Harbor." The 2009 movie, written and produced by Norton Wright, Josef Anderson and Jerry Jameson, told the colorful story of the inception of Safe Harbor.  The unique academy has also been profiled in multiple national news media outlets such as People Magazine, NBC World News Tonight, ABC "Person of the Week", CBS This Morning, CBN and others over the years.  You can find more information on the summer program website, http://summeryachtschool.com or the Safe Harbor site at http://boyshome.com.
