Metis Resources Makes an Offer Hard to Refuse
DALLAS, Feb. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As the commodities industry climbs back following the end-of-year MF Global crisis, introducing broker Metis Resources is launching a new program that gives investors access to the company's proprietary research and information services free of charge -- and a transparent trial before selecting new commodity brokers.
According to Michael Cox of Dallas-based Metis Resources, the team at Metis believes the industry is hungry for strong leadership. "Many of the people who need to be active in the futures market are still nursing their wounds after the MF Global failure. We think we can help." Interested investors can sign-up for a free 30-day trial at www.metisresources.com.
Data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission confirms this contention. According to November 2011 data from the CFTC, customer segregated funds at Future Clearing Merchants (FCM) dropped from a year earlier, reversing a double digit year-over-year growth trend only five months earlier.
"People are nervous about jumping back in," Cox noted. "This includes farmers who couldn't get to the cash they needed to buy seeds for the upcoming growing season, ranchers who couldn't buy cattle and oilfield operators who couldn't post margin for their open positions and saw all of their oil hedges liquidated.
"But it seems like now—more than three months after the MF Global crisis—investors are still slow at coming back to the market. Our Access Leadership program is designed to help them return." Cox is hoping that when they do return to the market, investors will be looking for a brokerage service like Metis Resources that will do more than just help execute their trades.
As an introducing broker (IB), Metis occupies a unique position in the commodities trading business. "Our clients trust us to handle the day-to-day complexities of managing their accounts with the Futures Clearing Merchant," Cox said.
Some of that trust was put to the test with the recent bankruptcy that occurred in the industry and "we stepped up to the plate," Cox said. In the days after the crisis, Metis Resources was able to move quickly to transfer a majority of its clients' accounts and funds to R.J. O'Brien, one of the six future clearing merchants (FCM) designated to receive MF Global's former customers. "And we continue to diligently work to help our clients recover the rest their lost funds by monitoring the progress of the courts and trustees handling the MF Global meltdown," Cox noted.
Trust and accountability to clients' interests are key reasons Metis believes its services are differentiating over other brokerages. The third is the company's hands-on experience in both agriculture and oil.
"We've worked with one of the largest cattle feeding operations since our inception in 2003," Cox noted. "Additionally, we have first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of a large independent offshore oil production company and their risk management needs. This provides a unique perspective on the energy market."
That experience helps drive the proprietary research that Metis Resources provides to its clients to help them make their investment decisions. "We're so confident that our unique insights into the cattle, grains and oil markets that we allow interested potential clients to sample our research updates for a month before they need to make a decision to join us," Cox said.
"We're committed to providing the best service and research to help our clients effectively hedge their exposure to commodity prices," he added.
Note: Futures trading involves risk of loss. May not be suitable for all investors.
