
Mid-State Wine & Liquors Ropes in Over 35 Medals
During the Houston Rodeo Bites and Bite competition
HOUSTON, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Mid-State Wine & Liquors, a boutique distributor based in Houston, Texas, has a portfolio of wines worthy of toasting. The proof was in the glass as Mid-State roped in 35 medals at the 2010 Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition on November 14-15, 2009. Medals won included two Reserve Champion and three class champions, of which one was named top value.
The seventh annual "Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo" International Wine Competition included over 1,800 entries from 583 wineries and 20 countries. Judges tasted through the wines blindfolded in search of the Grand Champion. Winners are to be showcased during the Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup and Best Bites Competition held on February 21, 2010. Wines will be poured with like cuisine for more than 4,000 food and wine enthusiast to indulge on, as medals, chaps and buckles are awarded to the winning Reserve Champions.
In celebration of its great accomplishment, Mid-State is hosting a private tasting where they will showcase 15 out of the 35 winning wines, including the reserve champions. Wines will be paired with tasty bites that complement each of them. The event is to be held at The Tasting Room Wine Café- Uptown in Houston, Texas, on February 09, 2010. Invited guests will have the opportunity to purchase the wines for a special price during the celebration. "It was difficult to choose the 15 wines to showcase," said Leon Sierra, owner of Mid-State wine. "They are all winners, but for this venue I picked the vintages that offer the best value and represent the worldly selection of my portfolio."
Guests will be treated to wines such as Ikal1150, 2-2-tango, Medrano Estate and Tierra Brisa out of Argentina, Domaine Gayda out of France, Sierra Private Selection out of Willamette Valley, Mt. Difficulty out of Central Otago, Quail Ridge and Turn 4 out of Napa Valley, Valduero out of Spain and Wilson Creek Almond Champagne out of California. The two class champions being featured include Ikal1150- 2007 Chardonnay out of Argentina and the Quail Ridge Chardonnay out of Napa Valley.
Mid-State wines came into the competition with 50 wines and came out with 35 medals including 5 Reserve and Class Champions. Mid-States portfolio includes wines from around the world. Wines are hand selected and only introduced in the market place after their experienced panel of wineologists approves them for distribution. "I only give my customers the best of the best," said Sierra. "My portfolio is a reflection of what I believe and love and I don't want to tarnish it by introducing wines that are not of the highest standards."
With so many distributors in Texas, Mid-State strives to standout. "Having over 70% of the entries medal, is a tribute to the effort Mid-State has made to compose a portfolio of wines that are unique, offering great value and great taste," said Junico Valverde, owner of the Wine Bucket in Houston.
Mid-State has plans to grow and expand in 2010, going into territories such as McAllen, Corpus Christie and Tyler, Texas, as well as venturing into other states like Louisiana. The growth is meant to happen while still keeping the same philosophy of offering great service, great wines and great value. "We don't have representatives in the marketplace," said Justin Gasper, Houston Sales Manager. "We have knowledgeable wine specialists that will work with each account to customize their needs; that is why we so lovingly refer to them as wineologists."
