BALTIMORE, Feb. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Miles & Stockbridge P.C., a leading law firm with more than 200 lawyers in the mid-Atlantic region, has announced it will open an office in Washington, D.C., on February 15. The new office will be located at 1801 K Street NW in the downtown central business district.

"We need to be in Washington for our clients," said John B. Frisch, chairman and chief executive officer of Miles & Stockbridge. "They are working here, have interests here and need our counsel here. And while we have worked in Greater Washington for decades, nothing can replicate the benefits of being in close proximity to clients. We expect our new office to play a critical role in supporting our firm's vigorous commitment to client service and unique values-driven culture, as well as our overall growth as we actively recruit laterals here."

The Washington office will focus on matters pertaining to key client industries: finance and capital markets, real estate, manufacturing and distribution, as well as specific lawyer strengths related to the region, including education, government contracts, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. 

Miles & Stockbridge lawyers from other offices in the region will open and work in the new office, for which the firm is also actively recruiting lateral lawyers. Initially, the firm will have seven lawyers in Washington full-time with another 11 lawyers working in the new office two to four days per week. John A. Stalfort, chair of Miles & Stockbridge's business department and a principal and board member of the firm, will serve as the managing principal in Washington and work there full-time. Frisch will spend two to three days per week in the new office. The leadership team will also include Tara Weintritt, the firm's chief marketing officer, director of client services and a member of the firm's executive committee.
