Miller Lite® Uses ScanLife & QR Codes to Power 'Beer for the People' Sweepstakes at South by Southwest Festival in Austin Codes will enter users into a sweepstakes for a chance at winning a variety of prizes
NEW YORK, March 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Scanbuy, Inc. (www.scanbuy.com), the global leader in mobile barcode solutions, today announced that it will be providing QR codes for the Miller Lite Beer for the People (www.thebeerforthepeople.com) phase two sweepstakes beginning 03/11/11 and ending on 03/20/11 at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival, happening March 11-20 in Austin, Texas. By simply scanning barcodes using a mobile device at the event, users will be routed to an online entry form where they can enter into a sweepstakes for a chance to win $20 pre-paid cards. During the first phase of the Miller Lite SXSW promotion which ended 2/28/11, consumers were able to enter for a chance to win admission to SXSW – Film, Music and Interactive.
The Miller Lite campaign will feature ScanLife QR Codes placed throughout the event on numerous items including posters, print ads, case cards, coasters and more. The codes will also appear in participating retail stores in the Austin area, as well as in and around participating bars and restaurants at SXSW. Upon completing the online entry form, users will be immediately notified as to whether or not they are a winner of a prize.
"We're excited to power the QR codes for the Miller Lite Beer for the People sweepstakes during SXSW," said Mike Wehrs, CEO and President of Scanbuy. "The codes give people a fun and direct way to interact with the Miller Lite brand. With mobile barcode scanning experiencing a 1600% increase in traffic in 2010, major events like SXSW incorporating mobile barcodes will only continue to drive strong growth."
Last year's SXSW event also integrated QR codes in places such as name badges and the SXSWorld Magazine. By integrating QR codes into the sweepstakes, Miller Lite aims to take a more subtle approach in connecting with a target audience that doesn't typically respond well to traditional, in-your-face marketing. As part of the campaign, The Integer Group also designed a poster art creative embedding the Scanbuy QR code seamlessly into the creative.
"Scanbuy's QR codes are the perfect complement to the Miller Lite marketing plan for SXSW," said Brad Nadal, Field Marketing for MillerCoors. "QR codes speak the language of the tech savvy SXSW attendee and allow us to bring our 'Great Tasting Miller Lite – Beer for the People' campaign to life through our consumers' mobile lifestyle. We look forward to seeing the positive response and exploring other ways to use this technology."
