Minyanville Media Creates "Lin-dex," Tracks Companies Benefiting From Jeremy Lin's Success
NEW YORK, Feb. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Minyanville.com, the Emmy Award-winning finance and business media company, has created the "Lin-dex," which tracks a basket of companies that will benefit or have already benefited from Jeremy Lin's ongoing success.
The "Lin-dex" tracks eight companies, including The Madison Square Garden Company (MSG), which hosts the Knicks' home games and whose shares have risen 9.2% over the past five days, Disney (DIS), which owns both ESPN and ABC, the dominant channels that air NBA games, and Nike (NKE), which signed Lin to a three-year contract in 2010. The Lin-dex is rounded out by Verizon (VZ), Ethan Allan (ETH), Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS), Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A), and Adidas (ADDYY.PK).
The companies are equal-weighted in the Lin-dex, and have been tracked as of Lin's first game in February. The weekly column, written by Justin Rohrlich, will summarize recent news surrounding any of the eight companies, as well as Lin's recent triumphs, and chart the performance of the companies against the stock-market average for comparison. As of February 15th, the Lin-dex is outperforming the S&P 500 by 2.5%.
"In an age where superstar athletes are increasingly viewed as tone deaf, self-promoted millionaires, it's refreshing to see a kid captivate our imagination in such a profound way," said Todd Harrison, Founder and CEO of Minyanville Media.
"We, at Minyanville, enjoy homegrown success stories as much as the next guy and have fashioned the world's first Equity Lin-dex featuring a basket of stocks to track the ongoing success of Jeremy Lin."
