CHICAGO, June 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- David O. Barbe, M.D., a practicing family physician, was elected today as the newest member of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association.

Dr. Barbe's multifaceted career spans nearly three decades of service, including many top leadership positions in his local, state and family practice specialty organizations. He has served on the AMA's Council of Medical Service for two terms, acting this year as its chair. Dr. Barbe has also chaired the Council's subcommittee on medical payment and financing. He has served on the AMA's Physicians Data Release Task Force and as the AMA designee to URAC, an accreditation body.

Dr. Barbe has practiced family medicine in his hometown of Mountain Grove, Missouri for 25 years, delivering comprehensive medical care including pediatrics, obstetrics and adult medicine. He also oversees all clinic operations of St. John's Clinic, Regional Division, in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas.

Dr. Barbe received his medical degree and Master of Health Administration from the University of Missouri and completed his residency in family practice in Wichita, Kansas. Dr. Barbe and his wife, Debbie, currently live in Mountain Grove, Missouri.

Dr. Barbe's term on the Board lasts four years.
