Mobile Beacon Expands Service to Underserved Areas
Mobile 4G service provider adds 38 cities
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I., March 31, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Mobile Beacon (www.mobilebeacon.org), a leader in providing low cost, 4G mobile broadband service exclusively to the nonprofit and educational sectors, is today announcing the expansion of service to 38 additional cities in 18 states across the country. This brings Mobile Beacon's coverage area to more than 100 cities in 36 states.
"A unique aspect of today's announcement is that many of these cities are in smaller, underserved, or more rural parts of the country where the effects of the digital divide are prominent," said Katherine Messier , Director of Broadband Services. "While our 4G service is not commercially available in these cities, within a limited coverage area, we're making our service available to educational entities where currently this next-generation, high-speed Internet service may be either unavailable or cost-prohibitive," she added.
The 38 new cities added to Mobile Beacon's service area include: Mobile, AL; Bullhead City, Lake Havasu, Phoenix, AZ; Hot Springs, Little Rock, AR; Fresno, Palm Springs, Santa Rosa, Yuba City, CA; Colorado Springs, La Junta, CO; Bradenton, Fort Myers, Fort Pierce, Melbourne, Ocala, Sarasota, FL; Hilo, Kona, HI; Fort Wayne, South Bend, IN; Des Moines, IA; Emporia, Great Bend, Hays, Salina, KS; Holt, Lansing, MI; Atlantic City, NJ; Albuquerque, NM; Toledo, Youngstown, OH; Enid, Lawton, OK; Memphis, TN; Sherman, TX; Spokane, WA.
In the near future, Mobile Beacon will be announcing two new grants that include the donation of laptops, modems and security systems to schools in selected cities. These will be made available through a grant application process.
