The only son of Prince Ranier III and Princess Grace, Prince Albert II follows in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather Prince Albert I, who addressed the Press Club nearly in 1913 to express appreciation to the press for helping scientists reach the public with their message.

While in Washington, D.C., Prince Albert II will attend the Antarctic Treaty Summit at the Smithsonian Museum to deliver the keynote speech commemorating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the treaty, which calls for diplomatic management of ten percent of the Earth "for peaceful purposes."

The Prince is founder and chairman of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, which supports sustainable and ethical projects around the world that focus on climate change and developing renewable energies; combating the loss of biodiversity; and water management and fighting desertification.

The National Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. and remarks will begin just after 1:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session. This sold-out event is open to Press Club members and their guests only. Credentialed members of the working press may cover the event with ID.

All NPC Luncheon events are webcast live. A box with a link to the webcast will appear on the NPC home page at www.press.org five minutes prior to the start of the presentation.
