Mondre Energy Named Member of State Evaluation Team for Act 129; Will Measure Energy Conservation Efforts in Pennsylvania
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Mondre Energy, Inc. (MEI), a leading energy strategies firm based in Philadelphia, is part of a three-member team that will evaluate the success of Pennsylvania Act 129. The Act requires Pennsylvania's investor-owned electricity distribution companies to meet energy conservation goals.
Act 129 was signed into law in 2008, and requires the state's seven investor-owned electricity distribution companies (EDCs) to reduce customers' electric consumption by at least three percent, and peak demand by at least 4.5 percent, by 2013. The EDCs covered by the Act include PECO, PP&L, Allegheny, Duquesne, Penn Power, Met Ed, and Penelec. The evaluation team is working under the auspices of Pennsylvania's Public Utility Commission (PUC).
"Act 129 was developed to encourage energy efficiency and lower energy costs in the state," said Judith L. Mondre, president of Mondre Energy. "To meet those goals, however, it is necessary to develop protocols for collecting and analyzing data, standardizing measurement and verification techniques, and to understand the cost effectiveness of conservation efforts. Our work as part of the statewide evaluation team will make that possible."
MEI was chosen for the project by the lead contractor, Marietta, GA-based GDS Associates. "We selected Mondre Energy for our evaluation team because of their considerable expertise with and knowledge of energy efficiency issues in Pennsylvania," said Richard F. Spellman, president of GDS. The third member of the evaluation team is Nexant, Inc. of San Francisco, CA.
The evaluation team will work closely with the Public Utility Commission and the EDCs both to develop an evaluation and audit process, as well as to verify that the evaluations are accurate and represent the actual impact of the energy efficiency and conservation programs. The evaluation team will report the EDCs' progress to the PUC annually, and will provide a final report on the entire five-year effort in 2013.
