LoJack System Recovers Carjacked Vehicle, Helps Police Find Multiple $100K Chop Shops, Break Up Major Organized Crime Rings and Apprehend Violent Criminals

WESTWOOD, Mass., April 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In the past month, LoJack Corporation's (Nasdaq: LOJN) Stolen Vehicle Recovery System has been instrumental in helping police solve a carjacking, break up organized crime rings involving chop shops with stolen goods valued at approximately $100,000, and apprehend violent criminals. These recoveries underscore LoJack's effectiveness in not only recovering a diverse range of stolen mobile assets including cars, motorcycles and construction equipment, but in also helping police arrest the violent criminals behind these and other more serious crimes.

"These recoveries are great examples of how our proven System continues to benefit society by helping police not only find and recover stolen assets, but moreover break up organized crime rings and arrest the thieves behind these criminal acts," said Ronald V. Waters, LoJack's President and Chief Executive Officer. "These recoveries once again demonstrate that LoJack has the right technology and processes in place to effectively recover a wide range of stolen assets. Our Radio Frequency technology is time-tested, delivering unmatched effectiveness in locating stolen assets - even if they are hidden in dense foliage, in a concrete garage, a shipping container or a steel building. Additionally, our direct integration with police puts recovery exactly where it belongs - in the hands of professionals who can swiftly track down stolen assets and arrest the perpetrators behind the crime. Taken together, these strengths have enabled LoJack to achieve a 90 percent success rate over the past 20+ years and recover more than $5 billion in stolen assets worldwide."

About the Recoveries:

Recovery Involves Carjacking, Armed Robbery and Using a Firearm

In this Maryland/Washington, D.C. recovery, the owner of a brand new Honda Accord was held up and carjacked at gunpoint by two men. He immediately reported the robbery and carjacking to the Prince George's County (Md.) Police. The police report automatically activated the LoJack System and within minutes picked up the silent LoJack signal with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. Police from multiple jurisdictions were on the case and followed the signal to a residential neighborhood in Washington, D.C. where the Accord was seen. Two thieves saw the police and ran from the vehicle. Prince George's County and Metropolitan Police apprehended the men, recovering semi-automatic hand guns, money and the vehicle. The men were charged with being Fugitives from Justice, Armed Robbery, Armed Carjacking and Using a Fireman during the Commission of a Crime.

Police Bust $100K Chop Shop Involving Construction Equipment Ready to Set Sail

A 2006 Yellow John Deere front-end loader/backhoe was stolen from a construction site near the Florida Turnpike. The construction crew immediately reported the theft to the Florida Highway Patrol, which entered the information into the National Crime Information Center computer and activated the LoJack System. The next day, a Broward County Sheriff's Office deputy began picking up the signal and followed it to a freighter docked on the Intracoastal Waterway being loaded, bound for Costa Rica, Venezuela and other South American countries. The deputy determined that the signal was emanating from the bow of the ship. After four containers from the ship were placed on the deck, the container with the LoJack-equipped backhoe was identified. A squad of U.S. Homeland Security-Customs and Border Protection officers arrived to support the effort. When they opened the container, they found not only the LoJack-equipped backhoe, but also another stolen backhoe. Both were released to their respective owners undamaged. Value of the recovery is estimated at $100,000.

Police Discover $100K Motorcycle Chop Shop; Parts Were Sold Online

In this April recovery, a stolen LoJack-equipped 2006 Suzuki GSXR-750 motorcycle was discovered stolen from the owner's apartment complex parking lot in Georgia. The owner immediately reported the theft and police activated the covert LoJack System. Within three hours, Henry County Police Department officers picked up the LoJack signal and tracked the bike to a house in a rural area. The officer called a detective with a search warrant to the site and inside discovered not only the stolen bike, but other stolen motorcycles - all part of a chop shop operation. After a lengthy investigation, 18 motorcycles, some from as far away as Alabama, were recovered along with the LoJack-equipped bike. The criminals were stripping the bikes and selling their parts on popular online sites. Total value of bikes in this theft ring is more than $100,000. Three suspects were arrested and more arrests are expected as part of this major theft ring.

LoJack Leads Police to Bad Guys Hideout

Upon discovering the theft of an Ingersoll Rand air compressor at a jobsite in Arizona, the owner reported the theft to police. Deputies from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office began picking up the silent LoJack signal, which officials followed to a remote housing area where they saw the stolen air compressor at a residence. Deputies apprehended three suspects, obtained a search warrant, found the stolen LoJack-equipped compressor and recovered a stolen Dodge flatbed work truck, as well as thousands of dollars worth of computers and related equipment that recently had been taken in a burglary from a soon-to-open auto parts store. In addition, they found dangerous drugs including methamphetamine and seized several guns, including an illegal sawed-off shotgun. Two suspects were booked on multiple theft charges and a third was found to have several outstanding arrest warrants.
