Morningstar Introduces 'Personal Returns' on Morningstar.com, Providing Investors with a True Picture of Their Total Investment Performance
CHICAGO, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Individuals can now obtain their own "personal returns" for stock and fund investments on Morningstar.com, an investment Web site. Morningstar, Inc. (Nasdaq: MORN), a leading provider of independent investment research, introduced this new information today within Portfolio Manager, a Morningstar.com tool used by individuals to track and analyze their investment holdings. Personal returns give investors a true picture of their investment performance by taking into account all transactions and fees on an aggregated portfolio. Earlier this month the company introduced the Morningstar(R) Investor Return(TM), which estimates the return earned collectively by all investors in an open-end mutual fund or an exchange-traded fund. Morningstar's new personal returns give investors their individual performance and allow them to measure that performance over custom time periods. Personal returns, also known as internal rate of return, accounts for an individual's purchases, sales, fees, and asset growth. "The real world of investing is complicated -- people have multiple investments, buy and sell at different times, reinvest dividends, and move money among holdings. This makes it difficult to figure out how your entire portfolio is performing," said David Silva, editor of Morningstar.com. "Morningstar's new personal returns allow investors to get a true picture of their investment performance, and see how their individual holdings and decisions affect the value of their portfolio. We believe this is the only free Web-based tool available to investors that allows them to generate their personal return on their total stock and fund holdings." Registered users of Morningstar.com can access their personal returns at no charge in the newly created My Performance section of the site's Portfolio Manager tool. Portfolio Manager is under the Portfolio tab of Morningstar.com. Users who do not currently track their personal portfolios on Morningstar.com will be prompted to enter their holdings. Other new features of Portfolio Manager include the addition of multiple benchmark indexes and customizable performance periods. Now registered users can compare their portfolio performance to any one of 19 market benchmark indexes. They can also define the time period across which to measure their portfolio performance.
