MPOWERD Raises More Than $23K Through Crowd-Funding On Indiegogo.com
NEW YORK, March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- MPOWERD announced today that completed its crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com, raising more than $23,000 in 60 days through the support of 326 donors.
The funding will help MPOWERD bring down the cost of Luci, its solar-powered lantern, and expand distribution to parts of the developing world where access to electricity is irregular or non-existent.
"We're so thankful to all those who were moved by our efforts to end energy poverty and made a donation to our Indiegogo campaign," said Jacques-Philippe Piverger, Co-founder and CEO of MPOWERD. "The overwhelming support we received online – through comments, social media and dollars – confirmed for us that the world is ready to seriously tackle energy poverty, and innovative solutions like Luci are seen as an effective way to help us achieve these goals."
Through the "perks" selected on the Indiegogo platform donors also supported MPOWERD in sending 422 Lucis to people living in energy poverty. These lights, distributed by MPOWERD's NGO partner A New Course, will bring light to women and their families living without access to electricity in Kenya and Tanzania. MPOWERD will track closely the distribution of Lucis through A New Course and provide updates and photos documenting their impact.
The Indiegogo campaign is just one step in MPOWERD's broader mission to develop, manufacture and distribute innovative lighting solutions to those who need them most. MPOWERD is currently building out additional NGO partners that focus on youth, indigenous populations and women in order to scale-up distribution.
