WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Rock 'N Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana, whose current CD Supernatural is at number four on the Billboard Top 100, will attend a press conference at The Capitol in Washington, DC on Wednesday, September 15th, 1999 at 11 a.m. The conference will be held at the House Triangle on the Grounds of the Capitol, south side, in support of an effort to promote legislation to fight the alarming rate of Hispanic High School dropouts. As a co-Chairperson along with actors Rita Moreno and Edward James Olmos of Cada Cabeza es un Mundo/Each Mind is a World, Mr. Santana promotes the work of The Hispanic Education and Media Group. HEMG is a private non-profit 501 (C) (3) organization founded in 1983 with a mission to address issues, which place Latino-Chicano school children at risk for school failure. Santana will receive the Medallion of Excellence at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's (CHCI) 22nd Annual Gala later that day at the Washington Hilton for his long-standing commitment and service to the Hispanic community. The press conference and subsequent meetings with key members of both the House and the Senate is to help educate them about this crucial issue. The desire is to help back legislation to support funding issues that directly impact programs such as Cada Cabeza es un Mundo (an award winning project which has proven to reduce the dropout rates in schools where the program has been adopted).
