Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital Named a Best Place to Work

Baltimore Magazine Cites Mission to Help Sick Children Employee Benefits

BALTIMORE, Jan. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore is honored as one of the top 25 best places to work by Baltimore magazine. The non-profit children's hospital made the annual list of top workplaces for its mission to care for sick children, regardless of the ability to pay and for superior employee benefits.

"People work here because they believe in the cause," says Dr. Richard Katz, VP of Medical Affairs, in the magazine's February issue. "In an acute-care hospital, children come and go quickly. Here, staff get to know them and their families."

Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital has 509 employees who care for more than 7,000 pediatric patients a year. Employee benefits were one of the criteria that put the hospital on the "Best of" list. Benefits include a 403b retirement plan with employer contribution, cash balance pension plan, tuition assistance up to $3,000 per year, and even free flu shots.

"We have enormous competition for staff, so we have to be competitive with our salaries and benefits," President and CEO Sheldon Stein says of the hospital's attractive work-life balance. "We provide an atmosphere for people to work where they can really make a difference in the life of a child and a family."

The sub-acute children's hospital also boasts a desirable location—still within the city but away from all the hustle and bustle. Nestled in the quiet tree-lined Mt. Washington neighborhood of Baltimore, it provides easy access and free parking for employees and for families visiting the outpatient clinics and inpatient children.  Shuttle service from Johns Hopkins and UMMC downtown is also provided.
