Former Grocery Manufacturers Industry Professional, John Shanahan, will lead NACD's
Legislative Affairs Team
ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Effective today, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) announced that John Shanahan is joining the association, as vice president for legislative affairs. Shanahan has been an active participant in legislative issues with the Grocery Manufacturers Association over the last several years, developing substantive policies to advance industry interests and advocating those policies through outreach to policymakers, advocacy campaigns, and coalition building. His prior experience on the Hill as a top Senate staffer will complement NACD's legislative programs and his Congressional understanding will bring this industry dedicated advocacy leadership to better position NACD for the future.

Shanahan will be responsible for the planning and execution of all legislative activities for the association. He will oversee all grassroots advocacy and political programs including the annual Washington Fly-In, the Responsible Distribution PAC, and member company outreach to Congress.

Shanahan spent the last four years at the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), where he was Senior Director for government affairs responsible for developing strategies and directing advocacy activities in the energy and environment areas. Prior to that he served as principal of JCStrategies, and in the early 2000s, he was senior counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Previously, Shanahan held positions at the National Mining Association, American Legislative Exchange Council and The Heritage Foundation. He received a Juris Doctorate from George Mason University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia.
