NASA Astronaut Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month at Discovery Museum

HOUSTON, Oct. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA astronaut Michael Massimino will be the featured guest at the Discovery Museum and Planetarium's National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 8. During his visit, Massimino will give a multi-media presentation about his spaceflight missions, support a question-and-answer session and sign autographs for guests.

The Discovery Museum and Planetarium is located at 4450 Park Ave. in Bridgeport, Conn. Events begin at 11 a.m. (EDT). All events are open to the public.

Massimino was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in 1996. A veteran of two spaceflights (STS-109 and STS-125), Massimino has logged more than 571 hours in space and over 30 hours during four spacewalks.

STS-125 Atlantis (May 11-24, 2009) was the fifth and final servicing mission for the Hubble Space Telescope. During the mission, Massimino performed two spacewalks totaling 15 hours and 58 minutes. The refurbished telescope now has four new or rejuvenated scientific instruments, new batteries, new gyroscopes, and a new computer.
