National Council of Nigerian Muslim Organizations Hosts 9th Annual National Convention in Boston, Over 600 Expected to Attend

BOSTON, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Over 600 Nigerian Muslim youth and adults are slated to convene in Boston this week as delegates to the 9th Annual National Convention of the National Council of Nigerian Muslim Organizations (NCNMO).

Inaugurated in 1976, NCNMO serves as the umbrella organization for 15 Nigerian Muslim organizations in the United States.

The organization's four day long event, held from December 23-27, takes place at the Quincy Marriot Hotel and is hosted by the Nigerian Islamic Society of Massachusetts, based in Dorchester.

"We are proud to welcome Nigerian-Americans from across the country to Boston, the cradle of liberty in America," said host Dr. Abdulfattah Ilupeju. "We hope to advance efforts to strengthen our community and train a new generation of civic leaders."

The Convention's "2009 Platform Program" unites all Nigerian Islamic Organizations in the United States and convenes the next generation of Nigerian-American youth (from age ten to college) for educational workshops emphasizing peaceful religious identity and leadership skills.

NCNMO President, Alh. Dairo will deliver the keynote address at 3 p.m. on December 26. There will also be lectures by scholars and friendly basketball games at a local sport facility.

Convention delegates will discuss how to build stronger communities in which youth are given opportunities to grow into proud, educated, caring, and involved Muslim-Americans. Efforts also aim to provide assistance to those in need through charitable outreach programs.

Registration runs on December 23 from 9:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. General admissions begins on December 24 at 8:00 a.m. and continues daily through December 27. Breakfast is served between 6:30-8:00 a.m. each morning, with lunch and dinner scheduled according to each day's program.
