GAITHERSBURG, Md., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Association for Homeowners
Across America (AHAA), the nation's first and only non-profit, non-partisan
membership organization for homeowners and homebuyers, announced today that
Colorado Springs residents Pete Lopez and Bridget Jaramillo will receive a
downpayment gift to help with the purchase of a new home. Each month, AHAA
awards a downpayment gift through its FreshStart program.
Lopez and Jaramaillo, both in their mid-twenties with children ages 5 and
7, have had recent disputes with their current landlord regarding the poor
condition of their rented residence. The conflict has prompted the couple to
purchase their first home, though they lack the downpayment funds necessary to
close the deal.
"AHAA is happy to help this young couple realize the dream of
homeownership. Through the FreshStart program, this family will no longer
face many of the challenges that come with renting a home," said Robert
Newman, Executive Vice President and COO of AHAA.
The Association for Homeowners Across America formally launched the
FreshStart program on June 21, 2005, in New York City, after a trial period
that began in January. Each month, loan officers may submit FreshStart
applications online to the association, nominating customers who are already
pre-qualified for a mortgage to receive a gift to be applied to downpayment or
closing costs. AHAA reviews the submissions and awards the cash gift to
families or individuals based on their need and circumstances. The gift is the
equivalent of three percent of the price of the home being purchased and does
not require seller participation, or to be repaid.

similarly represents this segment of the American public. AHAA is a non-
profit, non-partisan membership organization created to serve as a one-stop,
expert resource to help educate Americans about home ownership and provide
them the services they need to protect their investment and make their voices
heard on important policy and legislative issues. The association is
headquartered just outside Washington, DC in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
