National Park Foundation Awards More Than $120,000 in Grants to National Park Service Employees
29 National Park Service Employees To Benefit From The Albright-Wirth Employee Development Fund
WASHINGTON, Feb. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Proudly supporting initiatives that help protect, preserve and improve America's national parks, the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks, announced today that it awarded $122,370 to 29 National Park Service employees through its Albright-Wirth Employee Development Fund. The Albright-Wirth fund supports innovative training opportunities for National Park Service employees to pursue personal and professional training experiences. The fund has helped National Park Service employees achieve a variety of career-enhancing goals ranging from publishing research and pursuing a college education to funding law enforcement training and advanced technical rescue training.

The recipients of the fund, which is a partnership between the National Park Foundation and the National Park Service and managed by the WASO Capital Training Center, symbolize the spirit of the men for whom the grant was named – Directors Horace M. Albright and Conrad L. Wirth. A 2011 Albright-Wirth fund recipient, Ranger Ben Hansel, used his award to complete his private pilot's license which has permitted him to take more than 300 aerial photographs of Canaveral National Seashore, documenting beach erosion, boundary, and structures for the park's photo archives.
Whether it is the Albright-Wirth Employee Development Fund or another National Park Foundation program, it is the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations that allow the National Park Foundation to continue its Congressionally-chartered mission to support and protect America's treasured national parks.
