National Press Club Inaugural Gala Honoring Myron Belkind Saturday, January 25

WASHINGTON, Jan. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Press Club will host its first ever International Inaugural Gala, Saturday, Jan. 25 to celebrate the election of its new President, Myron Belkind.

The opening reception begins at 6:30 in the Club's Holeman Lounge.

Among the activities that will make good photos and video are these:

  • The singing of the South African (and U.S.) National Anthem
  • A program including remarks by President Belkind and congratulations and toasts from dignitaries. 
  • Chinese Lion Dancers
  • Indian Bhangra dancers

Among the more than 300 guests attending will be more than two dozen Ambassadors from leading nations who are welcomed and encouraged to attend in black tie or national dress.

The theme of "International Inaugural" results from Mr. Belkind's  40-year career with the Associated Press and his service as AP Bureau Chief in New Delhi, London and Tokyo. 

About Myron Belkind

Mr. Belkind is currently a professorial instructor at the George Washington University in the School of Media and Public Affairs and the Graduate School of Political Communication. He is the first professional academic elected President of the National Press Club. Mr. Belkind began his journalism career calling in scores of sporting events to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Later he served as the editor of the Ohio State Lantern. He is a 1962 graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism.
