National Quality Forum Members Elect Nine Directors to Board

 

New Directors Represent Diverse Healthcare Stakeholders

WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The membership of the National Quality Forum (NQF) elected nine new members to its Board of Directors and reappointed four current Board members. The new Board members represent a wide range of healthcare stakeholders, including consumers, providers, purchasers and suppliers, and public and community healthcare.

The newly elected Board members fill new seats added by the Board's vote to expand the NQF Board of Directors from 27 to 33 members.

NQF is a unique, multi-stakeholder, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of American healthcare by setting national priorities and goals for performance improvement, endorsing national consensus standards for measuring and publicly reporting on performance, and promoting the attainment of national goals through education and outreach programs.

The NQF Board of Directors oversees the entirety of the organization, with a focus on strategic policy issues, and performs important fiduciary duties. The 33-member Board is composed of key public and private sector leaders who represent all major stakeholder groups. The Board is advised by NQF's member councils on the organization's and strategy and direction.

The newly appointed Board members are:

  • Richard Baron, MD -- President and CEO, Greenhouse Internists
  • JudyAnn Bigby, MD -- Secretary of Health & Human Services, Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Maureen Corry, MPH -- Executive Director, Childbirth Connection
  • Robert Galvin, MD -- Director of Global Healthcare, General Electric
  • Sheri McCoy, MBA -- Worldwide Chairman of the Pharmaceuticals Group, Johnson & Johnson
  • Harold Miller -- President and CEO, Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement
  • Mary Naylor, PhD, RN -- Marian S. Ware Professor in Gerontology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, and Director of NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Health
  • J. Marc Overhage, MD, PhD -- Director, Regenstrief Institute
  • Joseph Swedish -- President and CEO, Trinity Health

The new Board members begin their three-year terms on December 1. The NQF membership also voted to reappoint four current Board members:

  • Karen Ignagni, MBA -- President and CEO, America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP)
  • Chris Jennings -- President, Jennings Policy Strategies, Inc.
  • Mark McClellan, MD, PhD --Director, Engelberg Center for Healthcare Reform, Senior Fellow for Economic Studies, and Leonard D. Schaeffer Chair in Health Policy Studies, The Brookings Institution
  • Andy Webber -- President and CEO, National Business Coalition on Health

Three of the Board's 33 seats are reserved for the directors of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the National Institutes of Health. Consumers and purchasers hold a simple majority of the at-large seats.

The mission of the National Quality Forum is to improve the quality of American healthcare by setting national priorities and goals for performance improvement, endorsing national consensus standards for measuring and publicly reporting on performance, and promoting the attainment of national goals through education and outreach programs.
