National Student Day Contest Includes Cash Scholarships, iPads
College Students Rewarded for Good Deeds
OBERLIN, Ohio, Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- College students who volunteer their time and energy to charitable causes now have the opportunity to win valuable prizes, ranging from a $3,000 scholarship to an iPad, as part of the first annual National Student Day contest.
National Student Day, set for Oct. 6, 2011, is sponsored by the National Association of College Stores. It is a day dedicated to celebrating and promoting social responsibility by college students.
"For years, college students have been volunteering across their campus community and beyond," said NACS Director of Public Relations, Charles Schmidt. "From cleaning up a local park to serving as a Big Brother or Big Sister, they have taken time out of their busy schedules to perform selfless acts without seeking recognition. The contest not only rewards students for their work, but more importantly, allows them to showcase their work on a national level."
To enter the contest, students can submit their story on how they give back to their community online. Stories will then be voted on by students across North America. Voting closes Oct. 14, 2011. The 10 most popular stories will win awards consisting of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 scholarships as well as seven iPads.
National Student Day will also be celebrated on hundreds of campuses across North America Oct. 6. Participating college stores throughout the United States and Canada will host an array of events in their stores to celebrate and promote social responsibility. These events will consist of giveaways, parties, contests, and more. For more information about National Student Day and the contest, go to www.nationalstudentday.com.
