Nationally Recognized Thought Leader, Grant Lichtman, visits The Summit School
EDGEWATER, Md., Nov. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- If anyone has ever questioned what teachers do during in-service days, The Summit School delivers a pleasant surprise. Summit's Executive Director, Dr. Joan Mele-McCarthy, invited Grant Lichtman, a thought leader on innovation in education, to facilitate a professional development day for Summit's faculty and staff on October 22.
Grant Lichtman is a nationally recognized thought leader in the drive to transform K-12 education. He speaks, writes, and works with fellow educators to build capacity and comfort with innovation in response to a rapidly changing world. He works with school and community teams in both public and private schools, helping them to develop their vision and strategic imagination of schools of the future. Grant is widely known for his TEDx talk, What 60 Schools Can Tell Us About Teaching 21st Century Skills.
"The Summit School serves a population of learners who are bright but have learning differences such as dyslexia, written language difficulties, challenges with executive function and/or math. Summit teachers are very good at teaching students who struggled in other schools. When our students come to us, we meet them where they are academically, help them achieve success in school, and prepare them for high school and beyond. However, we recognize that the world around us is changing at a remarkable rate, therefore the challenges for which we prepare our students are changing," explains Dr. Mele-McCarthy.
Grant guided the group to think strategically about the ideas that resonate and align with learning outcomes while building value for their students and Summit families. The Summit School believes that the evolution of the classroom is inevitable and planning now to be on the cutting-edge of this changing tide is imperative to the success of students, teachers, and education as whole.
The Summit School serves bright students with dyslexia and other learning differences. For more information about The Summit School, visit www.thesummitschool.org. For more information about Grant Lichtman, visit www.grantlichtman.com.
