NetChoice Issues Statement Opposing Expected Federal Internet Sales Tax Legislation; Executive Director Steve DelBianco Available for Comment

WASHINGTON, April 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NetChoice executive director Steve DelBianco today issued the following statement regarding the expected introduction of a bill that would force small Internet-based businesses to collect and remit sales taxes for states in which they don't have a physical presence. It's anticipated that the bill will be introduced in the U.S. Congress as early as this week.

"NetChoice has worked long and hard to oppose Internet sales tax efforts to force catalog and online retailers to collect tax in states where they have no physical presence. We understand the desire by states to find new sources of revenue. But their proposals have never lived up to their promise of simplification. Rather, they would introduce complexities and burdens that would raise costs for many small businesses, who are the lifeblood of our economy and a substantial contributor to the very tax base upon which states rely. And these new costs would inevitably drive up prices paid by consumers, who are desperately seeking bargains in this struggling economy."

NetChoice is a coalition of trade associations and e-Commerce businesses who share the goal of promoting convenience, choice and commerce on the Net. For years, NetChoice has been on the front lines of e-commerce policy battles, working to protect the entrepreneurial and consumer-empowering promise of the Internet.
