Europe's First Multinational Internet Telephone Service Provider Bundles

NETGEAR VoIP Terminal Adapter and Router with Service in Austria, Germany and

the U.K.

Apr 25, 2005, 01:00 ET from NETGEAR, Inc.

    SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NETGEAR(R), Inc.
(Nasdaq: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded
networking products, today announced that sipgate, Europe's first
multinational Internet telephone service provider, has agreed to offer NETGEAR
products to sipgate customers in Austria, Germany and the United Kingdom. This
arrangement is NETGEAR's first with a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
service provider in Europe, and further underscores the importance to NETGEAR
of the development and delivery of new VoIP devices for residential and small
office/home office (SOHO) customers. The first product to be covered by the
new relationship is a NETGEAR Broadband Voice Adapter with Router and 2 Phone
Ports (Model TA612V), specifically customized by NETGEAR to support sipgate
 VoIP services.
"NETGEAR's commitment to reliable, affordable and stylish products extends
to our VoIP strategy," said Paul J. Thomas, NETGEAR's director of Telco & ISP
Business, EMEA. "We're excited at the opportunity to connect the NETGEAR
brand, already well known in Europe for data networking, to voice services.
The convergence of voice with data and multimedia networking through a home
network promises to become the standard way that people communicate. We're
happy to be working with sipgate to enable their subscribers to benefit from
 this convenient service today."
Customers that sign up for the sipgate service use their existing
broadband connection to make phone calls over the Internet, either as a second
landline service or as a replacement for their existing landline. sipgate
provides subscribers with the NETGEAR Broadband Voice Adapter with Router,
which is the ideal telephone terminal adapter for delivering convergent voice
services to the networked home environment. The NETGEAR Broadband Voice
Adapter offers standard NETGEAR router and firewall functionality so that
subscribers can also connect personal computers and peripheral devices into a
 home network.
The NETGEAR Broadband Voice Adapter with Router has two ports for
telephone and fax devices and two RJ-45 jacks for connections to the Internet
and the home network. Customers simply plug an ordinary telephone and their
cable or digital subscriber line (DSL) modem into the NETGEAR Broadband Voice
Adapter; installation and set-up is extremely simple due to NETGEAR's
intuitive user interface, Smart Wizard(TM). To place and receive calls, a user
just picks up the adapter-connected telephone and dials numbers as normal, but
at lower rates, with greater convenience and better service. There are no line
rental or monthly charges for sipgate service; calls are charged on a highly
competitive pay-as-you-go basis. Additional benefits to new sipgate
subscribers using the NETGEAR Broadband Voice Adapter with Router are free
minutes, free voicemail, and free set-up.
"NETGEAR is one of the most respected networking brands in Europe, with a
very strong retail presence and a high name-recognition factor," said Thilo
Salmon, associate managing director of Indigo Networks GmbH, sipgate's parent
company headquartered in Duesseldorf, Germany. "By combining their products
with the sipgate service we've rolled out in Austria, Germany and the U.K.,
we're offering subscribers the most robust, and convenient, option for
 combined voice and data networking."
The NETGEAR Broadband Voice Adapter with Router and 2 Phone Ports (TA612V)
is available now via sipgate and will be available in select retail outlets
subject to local agreements. More information on sipgate's Internet telephone
