New Contract Proves MTD are a cut Above the Rest

STOKE-ON-TRENT, England, May 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Midland Tool and Design has won a major order to supply razor blade tooling to a manufacturer on the Indian Subcontinent.

The West Midlands firm will design and manufacture the tools to help the Gazipur-based Bangladesh Blade Factory produce millions of stainless steel double-edged razor blades. The project has been funded by the Indian Government.

MTD is currently the only UK manufacturer of razor blade tooling, and have supplied similar tooling to manufacturers in India, Turkey, Pakistan and Egypt in the past few years.

Bosses believe this success shows UK engineering has maintained its good reputation around the world, despite facing tough competition from overseas.

Managing Director Darren Booton said: "One of the major advantages UK manufacturers have over our global competitors is the level of skill and expertise in our workforce.

"This is the main reason companies in Spain, China, Finland and the US are coming to us, rather than to countries where labour is cheaper."

Midland Tool and Design was established in 1969 and specialises in supplying precision engineering components to a wide range of companies in aerospace, medical and automotive engineering.

They currently employ 35 people at their headquarters in Tipton, West Midlands.
