Mystery at Sea, the cover story of the June issue of GREENWICH magazine, breaks exclusive information regarding the case of George Smith, the honeymooner lost at sea. Smith, a Greenwich resident, went overboard on his 2005 honeymoon aboard Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas. The investigation continues to make national news and is actively being pursued by the FBI.
For seven years Smith's family and their attorney Michael Jones of the Greenwich law firm Ivey, Barnum and O'Mara have waged a battle to bring the perpetrator/s to justice.
"As a community-focused publication, with long-standing local ties, we are happy to have worked closely with Michael Jones and the Smith family to bring this critical information to the pages of GREENWICH magazine," says the magazine's editor Cristin Marandino. "It's an intricate story with lots of twists and turns. And while being able to report exclusive information is journalistically exciting, what really strikes a chord is that we may be playing a role in bringing George Smith's murderers to justice."
Writer Timothy Dumas who authored the book Greentown, Murder and Mystery in Greenwich, America's Wealthiest Community, which chronicles the murder of Martha Moxley, conducted extensive interviews and waded through depositions, cruise ship files, incident reports and witness statements. The result is a fascinating story that sheds light on what happened that fateful night.
"I am very grateful to Greenwich Magazine for focusing a renewed spotlight on the tragic story of a local family's struggle to obtain justice for their murdered son," Jones says. "By providing a detailed account of what transpired on the last night of George's life, as well as the investigation's subsequent course of events, readers get in-depth access to the evidence behind our theory that George Smith's death was no accident."
This is the first in a three-part series on unsolved murders of Greenwich.
GREENWICH magazine is published by Moffly Media, publishers of luxury lifestyle magazines.
