New Management Team to Lead Claria's New Strategy

Accelerates Launch of Consumer and Publisher-Centric Personalization Products

Aug 23, 2005, 01:00 ET from Claria Corporation

    REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Claria(R) (www.claria.com),
a pioneer and leader in behavioral marketing, today announced changes to the
management team, which include the naming of Scott VanDeVelde as President and
Chief Executive Officer and Scott Eagle as Executive Vice President, effective
immediately. With this change, Claria will be placing greater focus on its
opt-in personalization platform through its PersonalWeb(SM) initiative to
 evolve beyond the adware category.
Scott VanDeVelde, formerly a senior executive at Catalina Marketing, has
served as Claria's Senior Vice President of Global Sales for the past five
years and has overseen partnership relationships with major portals and
publishers. Scott Eagle, formerly at Procter & Gamble and Concentric Network,
has been Claria's Chief Marketing Officer.
Next quarter, Claria will launch the beta version of PersonalWeb, a
consumer software application that dynamically creates a personalized start
page for each user. PersonalWeb will offer easy access to their favorite
websites, automatically organize and recommend content of interest, and
dynamically display relevant banner advertising to consumers for products or
services based on their anonymous web-wide surfing habits. By utilizing
Claria's BehaviorLink advertising technology combined with the RelevancyRank
content optimization engine, PersonalWeb creates a truly unique,
permission-based, customized web experience for consumers.
"Claria's talented team has amassed substantial technology and experience
that we will now use to strengthen ties with online publishers and create
value for consumers in the areas of content personalization and search,"
stated VanDeVelde. "My personal goal is to not only see Claria continue to
help lead the development on Industry Best Practices around the adware model,
but to evolve out of the pop-up business and begin using our personalization
technology to deliver a truly personalized web experience for consumers."
VanDeVelde will work closely with Claria's Chief Privacy Officer Reed
Freeman to ensure that all future personalization products include industry
leading transparency and consumer controls. "Over the next few months, I plan
on reaching out to consumer groups, relevant industry trade associations,
regulators, publishers and advertisers to get their input on making
PersonalWeb a world class product," concluded VanDeVelde.
Claria's goal is to advance beyond the pop-up centric, first generation
version of its behavioral marketing model, to one that allows all online
publishers to capitalize on the proven effectiveness of the personalization
platform. "The Board of Directors and I believe that new leadership will be a
catalyst to accelerate this bold change in business direction, and capitalize
on Claria's current market momentum in the behavioral marketing arena," added
Jeff McFadden, Claria co-founder who had served as Claria's Chief Executive
 Officer since 1999.
As part of Claria's reorganization, effective this month, Mitchell
Weisman, formerly a Senior Vice President, left the company. Mr. Weisman was
responsible for distribution initiatives and advertising of GAIN ad-supported
software applications including third party software products like Kazaa.
Under the new organization, Jason Fairchild, Vice President of Business
Development will lead Claria's partnership initiatives with online publishers.
Fairchild was formerly Vice President of Business Development at the Overture
 Division of Yahoo.
