New Microscopic Time Lapse Tool! Exo Labs' Focus Microscope Camera™ Adds Time Lapse Feature to App
SEATTLE, Aug. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- A microscopic nematode worms its way across a Petri dish exhibiting unique genetic characteristics. A plant's roots burst forth from the seed and it breaks through the soil rapidly wriggling upward toward the light. An eager student captures these events and prepares a video to share with her class. Time lapse photography can bring drama and engagement to a wide variety of subjects and help students connect with Science. Exo Labs is working to facilitate that connection.
Today Exo Labs announces a great new tool for empowering students of all ages to create their own time lapse movies. This new time lapse feature will be delivered as a free upgrade to the existing Exo Labs Focus App and is perfect for recording microscopic processes that happen over time, like cell division. The Focus App is used in conjunction with their Focus Microscope Camera that connects virtually any microscope to an iPad®.
In addition to microscopic time lapse video, Exo Labs also makes it easy to film larger specimens in action. An alternative lens option makes the Focus Camera a stand-alone device. The new time lapse feature will enable the filming of larger processes or events, such as a seed sprouting.

The Focus Microscope Camera:
The Focus Camera is a new tool that seamlessly links virtually any microscope to an iPad®. Insert the Focus into the eyepiece of a microscope, plug it into an iPad, and it just works. The free Focus App then delivers a broad range of features that make the device a powerful tool for discovery and engagement – snap pictures, annotate, measure point-to-point with your fingertips, pinch and zoom, share via email, wirelessly connect to a TV or projector, and more.
Exo Labs also offers a varifocal lens attachment that enables the Focus Camera to transform into a stand-alone device capable of viewing and recording larger specimens like bugs, rocks, coins, electronics, dissections and whatever else you might want to explore. This solution is particularly well suited to the new time lapse feature. The camera can be programmed to take photos or video in assigned intervals so a slow chemical process or the development of an ant colony can be recorded.
In addition to the new time lapse capabilities, some existing features have been upgraded. One of the most popular features on the original Focus App is annotation – the ability to place notes or labels right on the image, wherever the user selects. This upgrade will extend that ability into video. Teachers, students, professional researchers, or even manufacturing assembly workers can now easily record video, adjust the manner in which this data is captured through the time lapse feature, and add notes right onto the video.
Exo Labs has also made it easier to email videos directly from their Focus App. Saved videos can now be sent from the Saved folder in the App.
The education market has taken notice of the Focus Microscope Camera because so many teachers, professors, and professionals are looking for ways to extend the functionality of their iPads. Exo Labs continues to deliver with upgrades and new product features that the market is asking for. Since their launch of the Focus Microscope Camera and App in April of this year, they have added video capture capability, the varifocal lens option, improved the image quality and frame rate, and now with time lapse they continue to show they are serious about igniting curiosity and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
