Amazing Desserts are 'in our nature'

NORTH AURORA, Ill., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Oberweis Dairy announced today that it has officially launched a major new product line, Oberweis Fine Chocolates, in all its retail stores. The newest Oberweis dessert is a collection of eight of the world's best chocolate truffles available in 4, 9, 16, and 25 piece assortments. Intended to be enjoyed as an indulgent treat or given as a perfect gift, assortments can be customized by the customer if desired.

"We are thrilled. This launch is the culmination of more than a decade of working out logistically how to present such fine chocolates to our customers who have high expectations of the Oberweis brand," said Joe Oberweis, 4th generation family member and the company's president.

The company's fascination with offering the highest quality chocolates began decades ago when the Oberweis family discovered distant cousins in Luxembourg. The cousins' European family business, also using the Oberweis family name, had striking similarities to Oberweis Dairy in its quest to provide customers with ultra-premium desserts. Oberweis Dairy has historically focused on ice cream, but its European counterpart has concentrated on world-class chocolates. While Oberweis Fine Chocolates are made in the U.S., the two Oberweis family businesses conducted a trial of importing chocolate from Luxembourg a few years ago. Unfortunately, U.S. customs and importation logistics made that approach impractical.

Still, the history dates back to the two families introductions. "It's ironic how similar our two family businesses are in demanding extraordinarily high quality. I remember being on a tour in Luxembourg City in the 1970's with my Mom and Dad [Joe and Lora Oberweis]. We were all shocked to see a store in Luxembourg called 'Oberweis'. After the tour we went right back and met Pit and Monique Oberweis and their young sons, Tom and Jeff. Over the years, we've become friends," said Jim Oberweis, the company's chairman. "While we talked about importing their chocolates - which are also excellent - they were very helpful in understanding how to bring this vision to life."

Oberweis Fine Chocolates are available at all Oberweis retail stores in eight varieties: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, raspberry, caramel, espresso, hazelnut, Irish creme, and almond & hazelnut croquant.
