New Sports Networking Program Designed to Empower Communities
My Sports Network International launches innovative athletic program to benefit youth and adults
NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., Nov. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- My Sports Network International (MSNI), an innovative athletic program that offers an educational and enrichment curriculum for youth and adults, will launch its initial program this weekend on November 10-11, 2012 at the nZone Center located in Chantilly, VA (14550 Lee Road). MSNI was created by Maryland sports enthusiasts and concerned citizens who aim to empower communities throughout the nation by complementing athletic participation with a network of physical activity, educational seminars, and life-skills training.
The MSNI kick-off activity will feature its signature component, "My Basketball Academy," (MBA) with 19 teams (10 boys' teams and 9 girls' teams) from throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia playing exhibition games; a few teams are also traveling from New York and New Jersey to participate. The games start at noon on Saturday, November 10 and at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 11. The public is invited to attend and there is no admission fee. The weekend activities will also include physical exercise focusing on agility training and an array of seminars presented to the young athletes, covering such topics as money management, career development, wellness and nutrition, and social and cultural enrichment. Professional experts in the seminar topic areas are volunteering to present the empowerment seminars.
Michael Bozeman, a 20-year sports veteran and award-winning high school coach and former Division I college women's basketball head coach, is a co-founder of MSNI. He created the MBA program component and explains that as MSNI grows, it will ultimately focus on seven sports: basketball, football, tennis, soccer, track and field, baseball, and swimming. Bozeman is joined by Maryland entrepreneur Ray McFarland in establishing the sports networking program. McFarland stated that the primary vision of MSNI is for individuals, young and old, to achieve self-empowerment and personal growth which will propel them into leading a quality, meaningful life. McFarland also explained that the program is based upon Seven Enrichment Building Blocks (7EBBS) that include: 1) Academic/Career Development, 2) Athletic Success and Personal Wellness 3) Financial Literacy, 4) Social and Cultural Awareness, 5) Leadership Development, 6) Technology, and 7) Family Empowerment.
"We have to raise the next generation of citizen athletes by going beyond the love of the game, offering our youth and adults value-added life skills and experiences to enrich their athletic performance, academic experience and personal goals. We want to offer individuals throughout America an opportunity to develop life skills that will benefit themselves, their families and their communities beyond the playing field," said McFarland.
Bozeman and McFarland, along with their spouses Wendy Bozeman, manager of teams that are coached by Michael, and Leslie N. McFarland, former collegiate basketball player and 2009 Senior Games Bronze Medal winner, are working together as family entities to operate MSNI. The MSNI co-founders realize that the strength of their families working together reflects how families and communities can work together through sports networking to improve the lives of others. The Bozemans are the parents of five daughters and the McFarlands are the parents of one daughter, a former UNC-Chapel Hill women's basketball scholarship graduate. Both sets of parents attribute the benefits of athletics and sports networking to instilling important life-skill values to their daughter's current productive lifestyles.
