BOSTON, Oct. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Food Freshness Card™ is a revolutionary award winning product that helps to keep food fresher longer.
At Bridgewater State University the Food Freshness Card™ was put to the test throughout the food services department with 36 Food Freshness Cards placed in storage areas, walk in refrigerators, and serving areas.
The Executive Chef reported:
Since the 36 Food Freshness Cards™ have been installed throughout our facility, we have not seen any mold on our bread, allowing us to not dispose of any bread. The first month's savings of bread waste alone ($274) represents about a 6% savings on our bread purchases with the following averages:
Last September - 2015
This September - 2016
Bread Purchases: $4,756.50
Bread Purchases: $4,564.76
Waste: $ 274.77
As far as data on produce, overall waste is down 15 pounds from 580 pounds to 565 pounds of discarded waste for the month. This represents about 2.5% savings on our produce purchases.
Items of produce that have clearly and noticeably enhanced longevity and freshness include:
Blackberries, which usually last 1-2 days, are now lasting 3-4 days
Raspberries, which usually last 1-3 days, are now lasting 4-5 days
Strawberries, which usually last 3-4 days, are now lasting 6-7 days
In regards to cucumbers, tomato and lettuce, it appears that they are lasting at least twice as long, which represents a substantial savings and decreased waste.
In essence, since we have installed the 36 Food Freshness Cards™, the first month's results have exceeded our expectations, and are very impressive, representing a significant savings on bread, all berries, and salad products.
The idea for inventing the Food Freshness Card™ emerged after Rick & RJ Hassler of Nature's Frequencies viewed news reports about how much food is thrown out in the United States, as well as globally, every year. "We were shocked at the statistics, and ultimately asked ourselves a simple question: How can we help prevent $165 Billion in food waste each year?" said Rick Hassler, co-inventor of the Food Freshness Card™.
The Food Freshness Card™ is extremely simple to use: just place the 6-inch square laminated card in the refrigerator, in the bread box, or under a fruit bowl. As long as the laminated hologram remains intact, the Food Freshness Card™ will last approximately one year and assist in keeping many foods fresher within a four-foot radius of the card. The Food Freshness Card™ is also effective for shipping containers, walk-in commercial refrigerators, produce markets, camping coolers, and anywhere food is stored.
The Food Freshness Card™ was awarded at Inpex, America's Largest Invention show, the Grand Prix award first runner up for best invention International and Domestic, and will be in Nurnberg, Germany this week competing at IENA International Trade Fair.
