CAPE MAY, N.J., Sept. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, a new TEDxCapeMay is planned for Sunday, October 21, 2012, 10am-6pm at the Congress Hall in Cape May.  This initial TEDxCapeMay program will feature video TEDTalks, and 12 outstanding entrepreneurs, leaders, innovators, and artists who have a connection with the greater Cape May area. The theme of the event is "Recreation and Re-Creation" with presentations exploring the interplay between human creativity and the region's recreational environment.

"Several years ago I attended a TED Conference in California with business associates Jack and Will Morey, and we were so inspired by the experience that we vowed to organize a TEDx program for our area," said Norris Clark, TEDxCapeMay organizer. "Thanks to the creative and supportive efforts of many people locally, we are launching the first TEDxCapeMay, which will encourage attendees to explore, learn, engage, and find inspiration."

The TEDxCapeMay 2012 presenters represent a diverse range of people and professions, each with a personal link to the Cape May area, and each giving their unique takes on the theme, "Recreation and Re-Creation." The presenters are as follows:

Besides the presentations and TEDTalks, attendees will engage over a gourmet box lunch (dubbed a "shoobie"), artistic exhibitions, and an afternoon reception. Registration is $50 and can me made at www.TEDxCapeMay.com.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, the recently launched TED-Ed platform for students and educators, the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide, and TEDBooks, short e-books by speakers that elaborate on a single idea originally presented on TED's stage. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
