VENICE, Calif., June 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Clean energy and renewable energy startup Nitro-Turbodyne announced today that it has picked up Liferay, Inc., a leading enterprise web portal provider, as a major sponsor for its Arctic study project called Project Polar Bear. The environmental preservation project aims to use Nitro-Turbodyne's award-winning clean technology to replace the harmful generators that power oil drills in the Arctic.

"We commend Liferay for supporting our environmental preservation and renewable energy project in the Arctic," said Ed De Reyes, Chief Technology Officer and acting CEO of Nitro-Turbodyne. "While other companies talk the talk about supporting innovative projects around the world, few are willing to step up and make the commitment as Liferay has done. We are excited to welcome Liferay on board in our efforts to advance clean technology solutions in the Arctic."

Liferay, based in Southern California and with offices around the world, has agreed to sponsor Nitro-Turbodyne at the Global Petroleum Show in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in June and to be a major sponsor of Project Polar Bear. The project aims to replace every gasoline and diesel power generator in the Arctic with generators that use liquid nitrogen technology created by Nitro-Turbodyne.

Unlike gasoline and diesel generators that can each release up to 40 pounds of carbon into the environment each day, Nitro-Turbodyne's Remote Instrumentation Power Generation Units (RIPGU) provide power cleanly without releasing any greenhouse gases. New operations can contribute over a half million pounds of carbon per year from just the use of local gasoline generators.   Donations to Project Polar Bear, a crowd-sourced project, will pay for 12 clean liquid nitrogen generators, which will be provided to petroleum companies who are drilling north of the Arctic Circle. These initial generators will provide useful case studies for other petroleum companies worldwide.

"As an open source technology leader, Liferay has long been a supporter of innovative solutions that benefit the world and the companies that create them," said Paul Hinz, Chief Marketing Officer for Liferay. "We are happy to be working with Nitro-Turbodyne in their efforts to preserve the Arctic environment using its cutting-edge renewable energy technology."

Nitro-Turbodyne will be exhibiting two of its RIPGUs, designed for remote oil and gas well applications, at the bi-annual Global Petroleum Show, one of the largest petroleum shows in the world. The U.S. Department of Commerce will feature Nitro-Turbodyne's RIPGU at the department's show booth.
