Northeast Student-Athletes Named National Finalists For Wendy's® High School Heisman® Award
Students surprised with news during high school celebrations
DUBLIN, Ohio, Nov. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Of the 48,000 students who applied for this year's award, Emily Granger from Saints Peter and Paul High School in Easton, MD, and Brett Conrads from Newton High School in Newton, NJ, were chosen as two of twelve National Finalists for the 2013 Wendy's® High School Heisman® Award. The award honors exceptional students who bring excellence in academics, athletics and community service.
The twelve National Finalists will travel to New York City where two National Winners – one male, one female – will be chosen and each will receive a crystal Wendy's High School Heisman trophy; $10,000 donation to their respective high schools; and recognition during the collegiate Heisman ceremony in New York City on Saturday, December 14, 2013.
Emily Granger, Saints Peter and Paul High School
Emily Granger exemplifies a true scholar-athlete at Saints Peter and Paul High School. She has lettered in Basketball, Lacrosse and Soccer. She was named Most Valuable Player, an All-Conference, All-District and All-State athlete for Lacrosse and has set three school records while playing on the Soccer team. In the classroom, Emily has received awards for Exemplary Scholastic Achievement, Team Spirit and Outstanding Sportsmanship. She is involved in her community through her work with her school's Key Club.
Brett Conrads, Newton High School
Brett Conrads is a leader both on and off the field at Newton High School. He has lettered in Ice Hockey, Lacrosse and Soccer. He was named Most Valuable Player and an All-Conference, All-District and All-State athlete for Soccer. Brett serves as president of the school's Spanish Honor Society and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is involved in his community through his volunteer work as an Eagle Scout and as a peer tutor.

Created in 1994 by Wendy's and the Heisman Memorial Trust, the Wendy's High School Heisman Award recognizes outstanding high-school seniors nationwide who excel in athletics, academics and in the community. Students can nominate themselves for the award online, in addition to being recommended by principals, teachers, guidance counselors and coaches. The most exceptional students are then selected to advance during extensive judging processes conducted at both state and national levels.
