NEW YORK, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- NTT Communications, the international and
long distance service arm of the largest telecommunications company in the
world: Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), today announced that
the company became the first winner of the inaugural award of Best Carrier --
Asia Pacific at the fourth annual World Communications Awards held in London
on 30th September 2002. The company also won the Best Technology Foresight
 award for pioneering IPv6 technology.
Organized by European Competitive Telecommunications Association (ECTA)
and EMAP Communications Group, the World Communication Awards celebrate
outstanding achievements in the telecommunications industry. With entries from
leading global carriers and vendors worldwide, the award winners were
carefully chosen from 180 companies by the independent panel of 12 judges
representing industrial organizations, consultants, and end-user
organizations. Over 500 industry executives attended the showcased event.
"Formidable local knowledge and cutting-edge technology made NTT
Communications the winner in the region," cited the judges. "In addition, they
have shown incredible foresight and significant leadership in creation,
standardization and implementation of IPv6 technology, which will impact the
 industry in a profound way."
Inheriting NTT's long-standing commitment to enhance communications
infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region through investment and partnerships,
NTT Communications has been vigorously developing and marketing high quality
global network and IP services since 1997. The company established its
leadership position in Asia Pacific with extensive R&D efforts using rich
engineering resources and the largest number of directly managed nodes. A
number of technology firsts in the region, including the launch of the first
MPLS-based IP-VPN service in China, the first commercial IPv6 services in
Japan, Global LAN Ethernet service, IPv6 connectivity service in Hong Kong,
also played a significant role in elevating the company's status to a
 prominent global player.
"It is our great honor to be recognized as the industry leader in the Asia
Pacific region and a pioneer of IPv6 technology in the global marketplace
among such a qualified group of industry peers," said David Ryan, Executive

Pacific award reaffirms my confidence in our ability to deliver best possible
