DETROIT, Dec. 28, 2011  /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Detroit Branch NAACP extends its most profound and sincere condolences regarding the passing of journalistic icon Sam Logan .  To call Sam an icon in the world of journalism is really an understatement.  The Michigan Chronicle is known nationwide for being one of our nation's premier African American newspapers.  Historically our community has been able to count on the Michigan Chronicle to get news and views that are not often reported from the perspective of the people, in the major press.  Sam Logan and the Michigan Chronicle have been responsible for empowering a community that often times viewed itself as without power.  Sam was not only publisher of the Michigan Chronicle he was reporter, salesman, editor, promoter, marketer and the very spirit of this historic journalistic Call to Action, known as the Michigan Chronicle

His passing reminds us all how precious life is and how we must use the time we all have to our best advantage.  Our prayers go out to the staff of the Michigan Chronicle and the legacy that must continue.  We will miss Sam Logan but we will never forget his historic contribution.  We are reminded of the words of Thomas Carlyle "To cherish what is dear while it is near and wait not till it is far away."
