BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With seven Olympic medals under her belt, including two Golds, Shannon Miller is now tackling one of her greatest challenges — to speak about her cancer battle at Cleaning for Cancer's Inaugural Fund Raising Gala December 2, 2011. The gala will be held at Fontainebleau Miami Beach in Florida.

National nonprofit organization Cleaning for Cancer (www.cleaningforcancer.org) has invited Miller to speak at the event. The organization is also set to honor companies and other cancer survivors in an effort to raise funds and awareness about the impact of cancer to quality of life. New York comedian and actor Chuck Nice will serve as master of ceremonies.

Miller is the most decorated gymnast in U.S. History. She has won a combined total of 16 World Championships and Olympic medals between 1991 and 1996. Despite her achievements, however, Miller was not prepared to fight a rare, ovarian type cancer.  In February 2011 during a routine exam, doctors discovered a baseball-sized cyst on her ovary. In a recent interview Miller admits to how cancer has affected her life. "I definitely have my pity-party days," recalled Miller. "I definitely have days when I think about losing my hair and not being able to do all of the things I want to do..."

But rather than keeping her battle private, Miller saw it as a chance to help others. She began talking and sharing about her treatment progress online for the world to see. Miller just completed her cancer treatments this summer.

Master of ceremonies Chuck Nice is a 14-year veteran of stand-up comedy and has provided comic relief on the Radio Chick Show, VH1's Best Week Ever, WE TV's Cinematherapy, The Mike & Juliet Show, Tru TV's World's Dumbest Criminals, and his own one hour specials on the Discovery Network titled Proof.
