SCHAUMBURG, Ill., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Omron Corporation announced today that its affiliate company, Omron Healthcare, Inc., a leading manufacturer of healthcare products, is sponsoring a "Fittest Cities" outreach program with Men's Fitness Magazine. The effort is intended to encourage people to become aware of their health and fitness, especially in those places named the "fattest cities." Five years ago, Men's Fitness began researching and reporting on the state of weight in America. They found the population was working harder but not working out, and eating faster but not eating better. Today, nearly two out of three Americans are overweight. For the third year in a row, Houston ranked as the Fattest City, followed by Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia and St. Louis. The goal of the program is to convert Americans to a standard of body composition-based health management, rather than utilizing scales, body weight and caloric-reduction dieting. "Maintaining one's health with fitness is beneficial towards disease prevention including diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and heart disease," said Kazuo Saito, CEO of Omron Healthcare, Inc. "The goal of this program mirrors Omron's commitment to developing resources on personal wellness products and healthcare services in the healthcare equipment and lifestyle disease monitoring markets." Omron has committed itself to meeting the needs of society through the products and services it offers. Participation in the program illustrates Omron its philosophy, "at work for a better life, a better world for all," beyond its products and services. Events will be held in 12 cities in the U.S. allowing people to have their body composition measured, blood pressure checked and receive information on exercise and healthy eating. Omron is supplying the events with its body fat analyzers and blood pressure monitors to help American assess their health and well-being. "We're very excited to partner with Omron Healthcare on this critically important initiative," said Men's Fitness Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jerry Kindela. "In our discussions, it's become readily apparent that Omron and Men's Fitness share a unified vision for improving the quality of life for millions of Americans challenged by an ever-growing national waist-line. Omron has demonstrated clear leadership in the fight against obesity and we look forward to sharing their products (and vision) through our Fittest Cities Project(TM)."
