The company will offer a comprehensive collection of premium products designed by a different designer each season that will be only available for sale online. The designer for the inaugural S/S'16 collection, Diana Eng, resides in New York City and is known for her scientific and experimental take on fashion, as demonstrated during her appearance on Project Runway Season 2.
Founded in Hong Kong by Paul Lee and Thomas Moon, ONU Inc. is a response to the disparity between functional and fashionable apparel available on the market. The inspiration came from their lives as working nomads and a minimalist desire for less to do more. "We want the things we buy to accommodate for more than one aspect of our multi-faceted lives. The ONU S/S' 16 collection is comprised of nine pieces; four for women and five for men. The collection, features functional, minimal garments that are designed to work with you as you work, play and live. It is a reflection of balance between functional and fashionable apparel. Diana Eng, the designer of the S/S'16 Collection, takes cues from both technology and nature in her designs.
"I love bioluminescent mushrooms, crystal cenotes, and anything mathematically derived," says Diana. The Laser Lace Shorts for women incorporates a visual biomimicry by drawing inspiration from natural phenomena. The garment features an intricate laser cut lace pattern which is accompanied by a tulip silhouette resulting in an elegant and visually striking profile piece adapted for summer.
ONU will sell its merchandise exclusively online. The e-commerce model allows the company to be flexible and move with greater mobility to effectively reach a global spectrum of customers. Though the current target presence is in the US they aim to capitalize on the recent interest in technical apparel throughout Europe and Asia.
The ONU brand officially launched on Thursday, June 16th, 2016 at a local event in New York City's Soho / Lower East Side area. Influencers, press, creatives, and other VIPs attended to experience the brand first hand, try on the collection in person, and place orders from the newly launched website.
