Op Ed Connects Curriculum, US Students' Math Performance
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- An opinion piece co-authored by TERC's Susan Jo Russell, and University of Arizona Professor William McCallum recently ran in The Boston Globe on December 14, 2004. It was among the first to incorporate the findings of the just-released data from the Program for International Student Assessment and make the argument that an innovative math curriculum like Investigations in Number, Data and Space-when part of a comprehensive math program-can help close the achievement gap. TERC is a not-for-profit education research and development organization in Cambridge, Massachusetts. TERC's mission is to improve math, science, and technology teaching and learning. TERC works at the edges of current theory and practice to contribute to the understanding of learning and teaching, foster professional development, develop applications of new technologies, create curricula and other products, and support school reform.
