BURLINGTON, Mass., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenLink Software, Inc., a
leading provider of universal data access and enterprise information
integration middleware, announces the commercial release date of Virtuoso 3.0
-- the latest edition of its cross platform Virtual Database for SQL, XML, and
Web Services. The new release enables transparent and concurrent access in
real-time to heterogeneous data sources that include ODBC/JDBC/OLE DB/.NET-
accessible databases, XML documents, and data-set oriented Web Services.
Virtuoso provides access to heterogeneous data sources through industry
standard data access interfaces such as ODBC, JDBC, OLE DB, .NET Data
Providers, XML, XPath, and XQuery. It also integrates transparently with
runtime environments for distributed computing such as Microsoft .NET, Mono,
and J2EE, enabling the creation and hosting of WSDL-compliant XML Web Services,
Stored Procedures, Functions, Triggers, and User Defined Types that are
written in Java or any .NET bound language.
Virtuoso 3.0 is currently available in public beta form for the following
platforms: Windows(R), Mac(R) OS X, Linux(R), and UNIX(R). It will be
commercially available during the first week of March 2003.
"Virtuoso 3.0 is the latest installment of our revolutionary Virtual
Database Engine, extending its ability to homogenize disparate SQL and XML
data from a variety of data sources into the realm of application logic
homogenization via Web Services," said Kingsley Idehen, President & CEO of
OpenLink Software. "Virtuoso underscores OpenLink's continued leadership in
the area of standards compliant and cross-platform middleware," he added.
