HOUSTON, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation
(NYSE: CPQ) today announced that its Open Source development and resource Web
site, OpenSource.Compaq.com , will now be hosted on OSDN's SourceForge.net ,
the world's largest Open Source software development Web site.
Compaq, a long time supporter and advocate of Linux development,
anticipates that moving its OpenSource.Compaq.com site to SourceForge.net will
enable its sponsored Linux projects to be more easily accessible, garner
higher visibility and increased participation, and result in a greater impact
and return for the Open Source community.
SourceForge.net currently hosts more than 32,000 projects for 330,000
registered users. The projects sponsored by OpenSource.Compaq.com currently
include: Clustering Technologies (Single System Image Clusters for Linux,
Cluster Infrastructure for Linux); PCI Hot Plug for Linux, a featured project
on the Linux Driver Foundry and Linux Kernel Foundry; Open Source Database
Benchmark project, a founding member of the database foundry; Solaris
Compatible Threads Library project; and many others.
"Compaq is committed to delivering technical contributions to the Open
Source community and keeping them apprised of Linux advancements in a timely
manner -- to facilitate the success of their development projects and deliver
value to their organizations," said Judy Chavis, director of the Compaq
Corporate Linux Program Office. "Our association with SourceForge.net
broadens our reach and should accelerate the pace of project development of
the sponsored projects -- a win for us and for the Open Source community."
