OppenheimerFunds Supports Community During San Diego Distribution Symposium

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Members of the OppenheimerFunds Distribution team took time to support the local community during this week's Distribution Symposium in San Diego. Attendees assembled 75 wheelchairs for Support the Enlisted Project and stuffed 100 teddy bears for the local Ronald McDonald House, both based in San Diego. Both non-profit organizations also received a $10,000 grant.

Over the past five years, OppenheimerFunds employees attending the Symposium – a semi-annual conference among more than 300 members of the firm's sales team – have supported several causes in cities across the United States.

"As a leading asset manager, our clients are based across the country, and it's important for us to be involved in the communities where our advisors and investors live and work," said John McDonough, Head of Distribution. "The volunteer opportunities offered during the Distribution Symposium provide a unique opportunity for us to make a different kind of connection within these communities."

The organizations supported during this week's event – Support the Enlisted Project (STEP) and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego – serve more than 2,000 military veterans and help more than 15,000 family members each year, respectively.

STEP provides active-duty and veteran families with financial counseling and financial grants through times of crisis, with the goal of achieving financial self-sufficiency. The Ronald McDonald house provides a home for the families of critically ill children so that parents can take care of their own basic needs while remaining within close proximity to their children.

"We've done this every year since 2011 and now our team looks forward to carving out some time for volunteering. They are energized by the opportunity to serve the communities of our advisors and end investors," McDonough added.

OppenheimerFunds' corporate Philanthropy & Community program has a variety of offerings year-round, including partnerships with the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) and Cross Cultural Solutions (CCS), as well as matching-gift and volunteer-time-off programs.
