Over The Edge Event Comes to Sacramento

The Brain Injury Association of California is Taking Fundraising to New Heights

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Feb. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Over The Edge For Brain Injury.  On March 18, 2016, 76 brave rappellers will scale down the side of the 16 story high-rise in Sacramento, California to help raise awareness of brain injury during Brain Injury Awareness, Education & Prevention Month.   These daring individuals must raise a minimum of $1,500 to support the work of the Brain Injury Association of California and earn 1 of 76 slots to rappel 16 stories down the side of the Residence Inn by Marriott Sacramento Downtown at Capitol Park.

Over The Edge For Brain Injury is the first of three major events being held in Sacramento from March 17-20, 2016, sponsored by the Brain Injury Association of California during in a period of 4 days.  Please see below for the schedule of events:

  • March 17:  Over The Edge For Brain Injury (Media/VIP Day) Invited members of the media and VIP guests will rappel in the late afternoon to promote the main event on March 18th
  • March 18:  Over The Edge For Brain Injury (Main event day).  76 individuals who raise a minimum of $1,500 will rappel 16 stories and earn bragging rights to share with their family and friends.
  • March 19:  Concussion Symposium – This is a ½ day educational program designed for youth sports coaches, parents and student athletes to educate them on the signs and symptoms of concussion and the appropriate care and treatment following a concussion (brain injury).
  • March 20:  9th Annual Walk For Brain Injury - More than 1,000 individuals are expected to honor family and friends who have suffered brain injuries and Walk around the State Capitol.  Immediately following the Walk, the J Band will perform and participants will be able to purchase lunch from a variety of food trucks.

More than 2.5 million people in the United States sustain traumatic brain injuries (TBI) each year, and 1 million more experience strokes and other acquired brain injuries. At least 5.3 million Americans live with TBI-related disabilities at a cost of more than $76 billion each year. Brain injury is the #1 cause of death and disability and The Brain Injury Association of California will raise the level of awareness in California by going Over The Edge For Brain Injury.
