Overseas Adventure Travel will launch "Crossroads of the Adriatic" in 2014 30 additional departures already added to meet boomer demand

BOSTON, Nov. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) will launch its Crossroads of the Adriatic: Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Slovenia adventure—an intimate experience of these re-emerging nations that is geared to Americans aged 50 and older, in 2014—with 30 additional departures already added to meet high demand, especially from solo travelers, announced CEO Vince Cook today.

"For many older Americans, this region has felt off limits for most of their lifetimes, first under communism and then during the break-up of the former Yugoslavia," Cook said. "Now, travelers are realizing that these nations are flourishing and offer an inviting mix of cultures, coastal and Alpine scenery, ancient ruins and majestic cities. This adventure is proving to be the most popular of OAT's five new European adventures for 2014, especially with our solo travelers. Forty percent of this trip's bookings so far are for solo travelers, who appreciate the free single supplements and traveling in a small group with an expert guide."

The 15-day Crossroads of the Adriatic begins at $2695 with free single supplements on both the base adventure and optional trip extensions (as is the case on all OAT adventures). An estimated 1,100 boomers are expected to experience the new Crossroads of the Adriatic adventure in 2014.

On this adventure, travelers will immerse themselves in the history, natural beauty, and diverse cultures of the region, witnessing its re-emergence as one of the world's great travel destinations. They will delve into the many facets of Croatia, from the walled gem of Dubrovnik, to its breadbasket and gastronomic capital, Karanac, and Lovran, its Venetian-influenced seaside resort. In Bosnia & Herzegovina, travelers will discover Sarajevo's long history of multicultural tolerance and explore the ancient town of Mostar, whose restored Ottoman-era bridge stands as a metaphor for reconciliation. In tiny Montenegro, they will witness bare mountains plunging into the sea at the Bay of Kotor, before journeying inland to Slovenia, a country of emerald meadows, clear lakes, and towering Julian Alps.

With first departures in March 2014, the 15-day Crossroads of the Adriatic begins at $2695 (or $180 a day) for a land only tour or at 16-days from $3995 ($250 per day) with included international airfare. What's Included: Accommodations for 14 nights (3 nights in Dubrovnik, 2 nights in Sarajevo, 1 in the village of Karanac, 3 in Zagreb, 2 in Lovran, and 3 in Ljubljana); 28 meals (14B, 7L, 7D, including 1 Home-Hosted meal); 11 small group activities; all land transportation; services of an expert OAT Trip Leader; 5% Frequent Traveler credit toward next trip; special Good Buy Plan discount; porterage for one bag; and more. Optional trip extensions include a 4-night stay in Tirana, Albania from $895 or a 4-night stay in Budapest, Hungary from $695.

Crossroads of the Adriatic: Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Slovenia is one of five new OAT European adventures launching in 2014 and offering American boomers the opportunity to discover or re-discover Europe OAT style—up-close in small groups. In the past three years, more than 116,000 older Americans have traveled overseas with OAT, all in groups of just 10-16 by land or 10-24 by small ship.
