PA DCED to Help Oil, Natural Gas Firms Find New Business at Canadian Trade Show
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania's hydrocarbon energy companies can receive expertise and logistical coordination to attend the industry's most significant annual event in North America -- an opportunity that could bring new orders and a greater demand for their services.
The Department of Community and Economic Development said today that it is organizing a delegation and hosting a Pennsylvania pavilion at Global Petroleum Show 2010 in Calgary, Canada, in June.
Increased access to oil from Canada's oil sands, new carbon sequestration and nuclear generation projects, and ongoing environmental mitigation and remediation present huge opportunities to Pennsylvania companies supplying the industry, DCED Secretary George Cornelius said.
"Canadian oil sands and shale gas present great opportunities for Pennsylvania companies serving the industry," said Cornelius. "However, companies need to meet face to face with potential partners and buyers to be successful in this market. The commonwealth is providing that opportunity.
"Goods and services exported from Pennsylvania firms play an increasingly important role in the state's economy," Cornelius said. "More than 12,000 Pennsylvania exporters shipped $34.4 billion worth of goods in 2008, an increase of nearly 18 percent over 2007, and well above the national 11.8 percent increase among all U.S. states. True economic recovery is going to come from the private sector, and exporting is an area that holds much potential."
Cornelius added that the show will offer opportunities for Pennsylvania's nuclear companies, as well. Major oil companies are considering nuclear energy to power their extraction and refinement work in the oil sands because of the technology's massive generation capacity and lack of greenhouse gas emissions.
The Pennsylvania pavilion will enable delegates to showcase their products and services to more than 60,000 expected visitors.
During the 2008 Global Petroleum show, an 11-company Pennsylvania delegation, that included Easton-based Universal Industrial Gases, met with more than 100 buyers and potential partners through appointments arranged by Pennsylvania's trade representative in Toronto.
"The pavilion provided us with an outstanding platform to demonstrate how we can bring value to industrial gas users engaged in the largest energy projects in North America," said John Hogan, UIG sales manager for the chemical and petroleum industries. "As a result, we have developed valuable contacts and opportunities, which will enable us to expand our business."
In addition to exhibition space, participants will receive logistical support, pre-set appointments and on-site assistance.
The deadline for registration is March 1, but interested firms are urged to register as soon as possible.
