Search Gainers:
Five of the top 10 biggest search topics on this week's Movers and
Shakers list center around the GOP ticket, as Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (#1)
tops The Lycos 50, coming in at number one, generating more online interest
than Paris Hilton (#2) and YouTube (#3). Palin continues to dominate news
headlines, with searches spiking 500 percent over the past week for the
Sarah Palin Speech. Search interest in Bristol Palin also increases
four-fold as web users scour the internet in search of details on the
pregnant daughter of the GOP vice presidential nominee, while online
interest in the father of Bristol's child, Levi Johnston, triples. Search
interest also triples for the RNC and searches double for Cindy McCain,
wife of Republican presidential nominee John McCain. And from the
non-political world, the television premieres of both Gossip Girl and the
new 90210 score big hits with TV viewers and web users alike. Gossip Girl,
which sees its best-ever TV ratings with 3.4 million viewers according to
the CW, jumps 433 percent this week, while the highly-anticipated debut of
the 90210 remake beat Gossip Girl's ratings by 34 percent according to
Nielson, and sees a 380 percent bump in search activity on Lycos.
