HIV/AIDS is preventable, detectable and treatable. Our greatest defense against the spread of HIV to our loved ones is to know our status and the only way to know is to GET TESTED! It's quick and easy and it can make a difference." -- Pam Anderson On Thursday, June 22nd, the global superstar arrived in Dublin to a red carpet reception at Brown Thomas (a major retailer department store in Ireland) where she presented a check for 20K EURO on behalf of the M.A.C AIDS Fund to Dublin AIDS charity, Open Heart House. Open Heart House is a member- led culturally diverse organisation which actively embraces and supports people living with HIV & AIDS. Pamela then visited the M.A.C counter at Brown Thomas, where customers who purchased a M.A.C VIVA GLAM lipstick were personally thanked for making a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS by receiving a signed limited edition poster. She also encouraged customers to also do their part by getting tested for HIV. Pamela is currently en route to Athens, Greece where on Monday, June 26th she will present a check for 30K EURO on behalf of the M.A.C AIDS Fund to Athens-based charity Centre for Life. She will then move to the M.A.C store in Athens to thank customers who are doing their part in the fight against AIDS by purchasing the VIVA GLAM Lipstick getting HIV tested. The Centre for Life is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, offering support and services that meet the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. All the monies donated by the M.A.C AIDS Fund to Centre for Life were raised locally in Greece from the sale of the VIVA GLAM lipsticks. Finally, Pamela will end her European tour with a final stop in London, England where she will be escorted by John Demsey, M.A.C Global President and Chairman of the M.A.C AIDS Fund, to attend the 8th annual Elton John White Tie & Tiara Ball at his Windsor Estate Thursday June 29th. All funds generated at the ball benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. HIV/AIDS is preventable and 95% of people infected with the HIV virus worldwide don't know they have it. Recognizing this, Pamela Anderson advocates the importance of getting tested, getting results, and making informed healthcare decisions as her platform for the M.A.C VIVA GLAM V Campaign. The M.A.C AIDS Fund encourages everyone to make HIV testing a part of their regular healthcare routine and both Pamela and the M.A.C AIDS Fund fully support the National HIV Testing Day annual campaign, its message and importance. M.A.C VIVA GLAM products (Lipstick and Lipglass) are the primary funding sources for the M.A.C AIDS Fund, from which 100 percent of the sales benefit men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS. To date the fund has raised over $67 million USD. In just 18 months with the campaign Pamela Anderson helped generate over $20 Million USD for the M.A.C AIDS Fund -- the most any spokesperson has raised for the fund in it's 12-year history. "The support of the M.A.C AIDS Fund is as far-reaching as the disease itself. As we enter the 25th year of HIV/AIDS, the commitment of M.A.C Cosmetics and the M.A.C AIDS Fund to those affected by this devastating disease remains unwavering. It's hard to believe that so many lives have been touched by the sale of a lipstick. Yet while we are thrilled with the fund's success, our efforts are not complete; the fund will exist until this horrible pandemic is cured." -- John Demsey, Global President M.A.C Cosmetics and Chairman M.A.C AIDS Fund About National HIV Testing Day and Getting Tested According to NAPWA, across the United States on National HIV Testing Day (NHTD), thousands of HIV counselling and testing sites, state and local health departments, and community-based HIV/AIDS service providers will participate in NHTD events, by holding health fairs, providing community and media outreach, hosting special testing-related events or operating extended hours. HIV tests are quick and easy, and at some clinics they are free or can be paid for on a sliding scale, based on income. Many places offer HIV testing including local health departments, private doctors' offices, hospitals, and sites specifically set up to provide HIV testing. It is important to get tested at a place that also provides counselling about HIV and AIDS. Counsellors can answer any questions that might arise, help understand the meaning of the test results and provide information about local AIDS-related resources. Many places now offer the Rapid HIV Antibody Test that can give results in 5-60 minutes with a simple fingerstick sample of blood. To find out more about getting tested call the National AIDS Hotline at 800.342.AIDS or visit MACAIDSFUND.org About the M.A.C AIDS Fund The M.A.C AIDS Fund was established by M.A.C Cosmetics, Inc. in 1994 to support men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally.
